The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) started today (11) the 2nd pilot test for the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture (CAFA), a preparatory step with tests to ensure quality and coverage of the survey that will be carried out all over the country. Six cities in four Major Regions will receive work teams. One of them is Barcarena, in the state of Pará.

The teams working on the first day tested the equipment that will be used over the weeks. The superintendency also discussed how to move around the eunumeration areas.

David Montero Dias, from the General Division for Census Operations (CGOC) and technical advisor in charge of the project of census meetings for CAFA this year and spoke about the importance of such meetings during the pilot test.

“It is a fundamental process, a step during which the IBGE communicates and interacts with civil society representatives, in order to inform about the coming operation, in order to obtain support and make informants and producers aware of the importance of receiving the IBGE agent and answer the questionnaires.  The conclusion of this step will facilitate the entire data collection operation.”

He added: “The individual piece of information, as we all know, is protected by confidentiality rules, but, from the perspective of integration across different areas of knowledge within the agricultural segment, becomes statistics. And statistics can be presented for different territorial subdvisions. And that will be the material supporting public policies, provide knowledge on how these territories behave in terms of production, costs, traded values, aspects and cultural diversity that form agricultural diversity in Brazil”.

Located in the metropolitan area of Belém, Barcarena (PA) was chosen for having had, in the latest edition of the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture, a great diversity of activities conducted. The permanent acai crop is predominant in the municipality, but one can also find in Barcarena livestock and wild crop harvesting of nuts, babassu and bacaba, which enables data collection tests of different modes of production.

The operation is also being executed in the cities of Uruçuí (PI), Rio Verde (GO), Corumbá (MS), Rio Verde (GO) and Viamão (RS), the cities chosen for this round of tests. You can follow the activities of each day on the IBGE News Agency, Census website and on the Institute's social media channels: Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook.
