The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) started today (11) the 2nd pilot test of the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture, a preparatory step with tests to ensure quality and coverage of the survey that will be carried out all over the country. Six cities in four Major Regions will receive work teams. One of them is Viamão, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The Takua Hovy (Mbyá-Guarani) community was visited by enumerators and chief Rafael welcome the surveyors. “This work is important to show the villages and will help us in development. We are always together with other communities and here we have 19 families.”
Rafael Gomes is an enumerator attending this initial operation. “We had a two week training and that made ithis easier. Also, partnerships with institutions such as Funai helped us in this experience.”
Finally, Viamão (RS), in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, another municipality being the home of traditional communities, was chosen due to its peri-urban character and the presence of family farming and fragmented establishments, with emphasis on irrigated rice production. The idea is to test, in the city representing the Pampa region, the identification of agricultural establishments in areas under urban pressure, in addition to concepts of territorial boundaries, land use and pluriactivity, and the impacts of losses due to climatic reasons.
The operation is also being executed in the cities of Barcarena (PA), Uruçuí (PI), Rio Verde (GO), Corumbá (MS) and Rio Verde (GO), the cities chosen for this round of tests. You can follow the activities of each day on the AIBGE News Agency, Census website and on medias: Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook.
