Held in the Mestre Vitalino auditorium of the university's Agreste Academic Center (CAA/UFPE), the event focused on the Dialogue Round “Indigenous Peoples and the Environment: What the IBGE statistical data say in 2025,” bringing together teachers, researchers and indigenous students.
The opening session was led by the professor and coordinator of the Indigenous Intercultural Degree course, Denise Xavier, and was attended by several indigenous student-teachers and professors from the program, among them, professors Saulo Ferreira Feitosa, Aline Renata dos Santos, Joaquim Izidro, Cassius Cruz, Airla Cássia Xavier, Cláudia Truká, Roseane Xukuru and Janssen Felipe da Silva.

Teachers participating in the Seminar
With the participation of nearly 170 persons, the seminar featured a presentation of IBGEeduca by the IBGE team present, made up of employees Márcia Cristina de Souza Matos Carneiro and Democlaccides Botelho, who highlighted the results of the 2022 Census on the indigenous population and territory.
Tables and analyzes available for download on the portal were presented, as well as maps, videos, games and infographics that illustrate the reality of indigenous peoples.
The IBGEeduca portal also offers 140 pedagogical activities, prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education (MEC), 12 of which are dedicated to indigenous peoples and territories, accompanied by videos, tables, books, maps and graphs.
The objective of the event was to promote the exchange of knowledge between ancestral knowledge and statistical data produced by the IBGE. According to UFPE professor and event mediator, Ronaldo Campos, “everyone was impressed by the quantity and depth of information available on the IBGEeduca portal.” Coordinator Denise Xavier stated that she intends to “delve even deeper into the information and disseminate it among students.”
The program was also attended by professor Edvânia Torres Aguiar Gomes (UFPE) and researcher João Domingos.

Data that reveal the reality of Indigenous Territories in Pernambuco
A milestone in the training of future indigenous teachers, by addressing the relationship between indigenous peoples, the environment and official statistical data, the seminar brought together students from the first to the eighth period, and demonstrated the relevance of the critical use of tools such as IBGEeduca to strengthen pedagogical practices and promote contextualized teaching.
Professor Ana Cláudia, from the Xucuru de Cimbres people, highlighted that she felt inspired to promote cascade training after discovering the “greatness” of the census data and their possibilities for application in indigenous schools. From now on, she intends to replicate the knowledge acquired, taking the tools and data presented to other educators in her education network, expanding the scope of training and promoting more contextualized classes for indigenous students in Pernambuco.

The course coordinator, Professor Denise Xavier, contextualized the seminar as an essential activity of “Time University,” aimed at the political and pedagogical training of students. “The seminar allowed indigenous students to discuss the use of statistical data to read the world and promote a critical and political geography, which moves towards the reconstruction of the curriculum in indigenous schools,” concluded her.
The importance of the Educational Tool
Ronaldo Campos reinforced the importance of familiarity with IBGEeduca as an instrument for interdisciplinary training and educational empowerment. According to him, the seminar demonstrated that the portal is a tool that contributes to strengthening the struggle of indigenous peoples for visibility and access to information.
Casa Brasil IBGE SUDENE thus reaffirms its mission of promoting education and statistical and cartographic literacy, especially on a symbolic date – the Teacher's Day. The institution celebrates the essential role of teachers in training critical and informed citizens, essential for building a more conscious and sustainable future.
