The unemployment rate (5.8%) in the quarter ending in April 2026 recorded an increase of 0.4 percentage points (p.p.) from the quarter November 2025 - January 2026 (5.4%) and fell 0.8 p.p. from the moving quarter February - April 2025 (6.6%).

The unemployed population (6.3 million) recorded an increase of 8.0% from the quarter November 2025 - January 2026 (5.9 million). However, in comparison with the same quarter a year ago (7.1 million), recorded a decrease of 11.3% (809 thousand persons).

The employed population (102.3 million) dropped by 0.3% from November 2025 - January 2026 (338 thousand persons) and increased 1.1% (1.07 million persons) against the same quarter a year ago (February - April 2025).

The employment-population rate (percentage of employed persons in the working age population) was 58.4%, a drop of 0.3 p.p. against the quarter November 2025 - January 2026 (58.7%). There was stability against the same quarter a year ago (February - April 2025).

The composite underutilization rate (13.8%) was stable from the quarter November 2025 - January 2026 (13.8%) and decreased by 1.7 p.p. in the year (15.4%). The underutilized population (15.7 million) was also stable in the quarter (15.7 milhões) and decreased 11.1% (2 million) in the year.

The time-related underemployed population (4.2 million) decreased by 5.5% in the quarter (246 thousand persons) with a drop of 7.3% in the year (336 thousand persons). The population out of the workforce (66.5 million) recorded stability from the quarter November 2025 - January 2026. Against the same quarter in the previous year, there was an increase of 1.6% (an increase of 1.1 million persons).

The discouraged population (2.6 million) was stable in the quarter and recorded a decrease of 15.3% (464 thousand persons) in the year. The percentage of discouraged persons (2.3%) also recorded stability in the quarter (2.4%) and decreased 0.4 p.p. in the year (2.7%).

The number of workers with a formal contract in the private sector (except domestic workers) was 39.3 million, having remained stable against the previous quarter and the same quarter in 2025.

The number of workers without a formal contract in the private sector (13.3 million) was stable in the quarter and in the year.

The number of workers in the public sector (12.9 million) was stable in the quarter and increased by 3.4% (422 thousand persons) in the year.

The number of self-employed workers (26.0 million) was stable in the quarter, and increased 2.3% (580 thousand persons).

The number of domestic workers (5.4 million) was stable in the quarter. In the year, there was a decreaase of 4.7% (268 thousand persons).

The informality rate was 37.2% of the employed population (or 38.1 million informal workers), against 37.5% (or 38.5 million) in the quarter Februart - April 2025.

The usual real earnings from all the activities (R$ 3,732) was stable in the quarter, with an increase of 5.3% in the year. The usual real earnings (R$ 377 billion) remained stable in the quarter and increased 6.5% (R$ 22.9 billion) in the year.

A força de trabalho (pessoas ocupadas e desocupadas) no trimestre de fevereiro a abril de 2026 chegou a 108,7 milhões de pessoas. Houve estabilidade frente ao trimestre de novembro de 2025 a janeiro de 2026. Frente ao mesmo trimestre do ano anterior, também houve estabilidade.

A análise da ocupação por grupamentos de atividade ante o trimestre de novembro de 2025 a janeiro de 2026 mostrou que não houve crescimento em qualquer grupamento. Houve redução no grupamento de Outros serviços (2,9%, ou menos 162 mil pessoas). Frente ao trimestre de fevereiro a abril de 2025, cinco grupamentos cresceram: Informação, Comunicação e Atividades Financeiras, Imobiliárias, Profissionais e Administrativas (3,3%, ou mais 425 mil pessoas) e Administração pública, defesa, seguridade social, educação, saúde humana e serviços sociais (4,2%, ou mais 766 mil pessoas). Houve redução no grupamento de Serviços domésticos (4,7%, ou menos 268 mil pessoas).

O rendimento médio mensal real habitualmente recebido no trabalho principal, segundo os grupamentos de atividade, do trimestre móvel de fevereiro a abril de 2026, em relação ao trimestre de novembro de 2025 a janeiro de 2026, mostrou que todos os grupamentos apresentaram estabilidade. Na comparação com o trimestre de fevereiro a abril de 2025, houve aumento nas categorias: Transporte, armazenagem e correio (5,1%, ou mais R$ 167), Alojamento e alimentação (7,5%, ou mais R$ 172), Informação, Comunicação e Atividades Financeiras, Imobiliárias, Profissionais e Administrativas (5,9%, ou mais R$ 293), Administração pública, defesa, seguridade social, educação, saúde humana e serviços sociais (4,3%, ou mais R$ 208), Outros serviços (9,7%, ou mais R$ 272) e Serviços domésticos (4,4%, ou mais R$ 60). Os demais grupamentos não apresentaram variação significativa.

A análise do rendimento médio mensal real por posições de ocupação do trimestre móvel de fevereiro a abril de 2026, frente ao trimestre de novembro de 2025 a janeiro de 2026, apontou estabilidade em todas as posições.

A comparação com o trimestre de fevereiro a abril de 2025 mostrou que todas as posições apresentaram aumento: Empregado com carteira de trabalho assinada (2,8%, ou mais R$ 90) Empregado sem carteira de trabalho assinada (7,6%, ou mais R$ 188) Trabalhador doméstico (4,4%, ou mais R$ 60) Empregado no setor público (inclusive servidor estatutário e militar) (4,2%, ou mais R$ 220) Empregador (7,9%, ou mais R$ 684) e Conta-própria (5,8%, ou mais R$ 169).
