Yesterday (28), the IBGE organized another edition of the seminar My Partner, My Brazil, My IBGE at Palacete Faciola, in Belém (PA). The event's debate session brought together representatives from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the Amazon Foundation for Support for Studies and Research (Fapespa), Ananindeua Municipal Administration, the Government of Pará and the State Council of the Cities of Pará.
The event is part of the actions planned to celebrate the IBGE's 90th anniversary and recognizes institutional partners that contributed to the production and dissemination of statistical and geoscientific information in Brazil.
The complete seminar is available on the IBGE YouTube channel.
At the opening of the event, the IBGE Superintendent in Pará, Rony Helder, highlighted the celebration nature of the meeting. According to him, the partnerships built over many years in the state demonstrate that the IBGE does not act in isolation, depending on cooperation and joint construction to fulfill its mission of portraying Brazil through information.
The IBGE's Manager of Planning and Administrative Management, Luiz Cláudio do Monte Martins, reinforced the institute's alignment with other reference organizations. According to him, the IBGE depends on partnerships with nationally and regionally recognized institutions, which contributes to the institution's credibility and longevity in the production of indicators.
What the partners said
The Director of Statistics, Technology and Information Management at Fapespa, Atyliana do Socorro Leão Dias, highlighted that the institution takes the name of the IBGE in its activities. “Wherever we are involved, wherever we participate, we bear the name of the IBGE. The dimension that the IBGE has in our work, how fundamental it is. The importance of being in these discussions. You can always count on us,” told the director.
The member of the State Council of Cities of Pará, João de Deus Ferreira, emphasized the relevance of the IBGE in Brazil. “What would the country be like, the size it is, if it were not for the IBGE? The IBGE is the largest technical, scientific, statistical and geographic organization in Brazil and one of the largest in the world. That is why celebrating the IBGE’s 90th anniversary is a privilege.”
UFPA's Internationalization advisor, Professor Rubens da Costa Ferreira, stated that the partnership between the institutions, over the last few decades, is fundamental to support academic research. “The partnership that has been established over these 69 years of UFPA and 90 years of the IBGE is, above all, aimed at endorsing our research. The university's research field needs data that reflects that reality, so that, through qualitative treatment, we can transform this into qualified information and study. And in the future, these studies will serve as a basis for formulating public policies. So, the main objective of UFPA is also the main objective of the IBGE,” commented the professor.
The state coordinator of the School Census, Evandro dos Santos Paiva Feio, highlighted that the Secretariat of Education constantly uses the IBGE data to plan and structure the educational network in Pará. “We are always turning to the IBGE to plan and structure the educational network in the state of Pará. Examples of our partnership were the use of public-school space as a data collection station and the Training Center (CEFOR) to carry out training for enumerators,” highlighted him.
Finally, the Secretary for Combating Climate Change at Ananindeua City Hall, Filippe Burlamaqui Bastos, said: “The IBGE data is essential so that we can structure our policy to combat climate change. First, because of the issue of risks. Risks are our main connection with the IBGE, precisely to identify those most vulnerable, which are demanding public policies.”
The event is part of a series of actions planned to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Among these initiatives is the holding of seminars aimed at recognizing the various partners that have marked the Institute's nine decades of activity — both in the public and private sectors.
