In the wake of the celebration of 90 years of the IBGE, IBGE Minute launches today (25) the first episode of the series of five radio programs to tell the transformations of the institution throughout its history.
Episodes will air daily until the end of this week.

The opening program of the series – Before IBGE: When Brazil began to count itself – which airs today, shows how Brazil's first Census, in 1872, contributed to the country organizing civil records, gathering data from the provinces and turning scattered numbers into knowledge.

"There is a very beautiful memory work at the IBGE. So, we took advantage of the material from journalist Mario Grabois and historian Leandro Malavota and transformed it into five IBGE Minute programs. With this, we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the institution and the communicators who have worked for it, through this News Agency product, in partnership with Agência Radio, which will help with distribution and dissemination," says the IBGE's Social Communication Manager, Marcos Filipe Sousa.

The second program – The idea of a system: statistics as a national project – presents Mário Augusto Teixeira de Freitas, the creator of the model that would give rise to the national statistical system. The third episode – Mapping Brazil: when statistics meets geography – shows how geosciences join with statistics, and the National Institute of Statistics becomes the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics.

The fourth program – Brazil in figures: censuses, territory and development – shows how the IBGE assumed the role of producer of strategic information. The fifth and final episode – From paper to digital: The IBGE and society – addresses the period after redemocratization, in which the IBGE expanded the dissemination of information and followed technological updates.
