Memory and Technology Hub and Interactive Map: IBGE features special releases to celebrate its 90th anniversary

On May 25, at Palácio da Fazenda, in Rio de Janeiro, three events celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Institute
The opening of Isaac Kerstenetzky Library - Memory and Technology Hub at Palácio da Fazenda renews the role of one of the biggest and most important institutional and scientific collections in the country, now in modern and comfortable facilities with a lot of updates.
The Library now has the a publicly accessible collection, thst is, users can browse the shelves and access the books directly. The facility also has a reading room, a space for research and study, desks with computers a room with a sofa: comfort and modernity for IBGE officials, academic researchers, students of all grades and interested audience.
The president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, explains that while obscurantism fear knowledge, the IBGE turns memory into future, and Isaac Kerstenetzky Library reappears as a living temple of public science in Brazil, which gathers an open collection, technology and democratization of knowledge. “In addition to the new interactive map of Casa Brasil IBGE and of the launch of PINTEC, the Institute reaffirms its long-term vocation and goes on producing national intelligence for a country that wants to understand itself, innovate and plan its destiny based on sovereignty," the president states.

According to the Coordinator General of the Center for information Documentation and Dissemination (CDDI), Daniel Castro, “the importance of memory, of the present, to understand what will happen in the future lies in the basis of IBGE's mission. As we portray ourselves, we narrow the scope of memory but it goes on by means of information, of dissemination. So it is very important, in this 90th anniversary, to recover our archives, the memory of the IBGE, and make it public, available, in an accessible place at Palácio da Fazenda. In this respect, the IBGE's 90 years leaves a legacy for the entire country; starting with the IBGE collection in Rio, all the other branches all over Brazil are going through this process of memory recovery.”
“That is a gift the IBGE has received, based on the idea that it is necessary to recover and treat our archives, in order to ensure the contrinuation of the memory and history of the Institute and of Brazil,” says Jeane Dezerto, Coordinator of Customer Service and Information at the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination (CDDI/COATI).
Gisele Rosa de Oliveira, manager of Library, Information and Memory (CDDI/COATI/GEBIM) explains that books listed in the library collection will be the ones mada available at the new office, to be used by researchers, users and readers. “Here, recovering the idea of a public library, we can receive more visitors, users in better conditions, more comfortably,” the manager said.
At Casa Brasil IBGE, also in Palácio da Fazenda, a new interactive map of 60 m² will be launched, representing the recently released world map showing the richness of species and countries in real proportions. Visitors will have the opportunity to step on the map, interacting with this element of information dissemination. This technological and scientific intiative will give the Institute the opportunity to intensify and strengthen ties with the school and academic communities, visitors and the society. The launch of the new Interactive Map, because of its meaning of innovation and creativity brings to Casa Brasil IBGE the atmosphere of a true restart with the 90th anniversary. The remodelled facility of Casa Brasil will house the release of the Survey of Innovation - PINTEC 2025, at 3 pm, aiming at the construction of indicators from innovation activities in companies with ten or more employed persons in the industrial sector, with electricity and gas and selected services. Also, a special program is expected at Casa Brasil IBGE during the 90th anniversary celebrations, with workshops, seminars, launches, and other events.
