The president of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Marcio Pochmann, had a meeting with the new minister of Planning and Budget, Bruno Moretti, on Wednesday (1), in Brasília. The meeting was held in a particularly sensitive and strategic moment for the Brazilian state, characterized by the need for strengthening of planning, coordination and execution capacities of public policies.

The agenda included the process of modernization of the IBGE as a central institution for the production of sttistical and geoscientific information, which are essential for qualification of governmental planning, of public policies and maintenance of strategic decisions by the State.

“We reaffirmed the structuring role of the articulation between the IBGE and the ministry of planning and Budget, especially in relation to data integration, institutional strengthening and consolidation of a public infrastructure of information aimed at national development," said the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann.

New meetings are being scheduled with the objective of deepening the coordination between the two institutions, align priorities and promote cooperative initiatives to expand the Brazilian state capacity to plan, monitor and transform the economic and social reality of the country.
