The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) published, this Wednesday (1), a new edition of the List of Industrial Products — Prodlist‑Industry 2025, a fundamental reference for the organization of industrial production statistics in Brazil. The nomenclature, which details industrial goods and services, guides surveys conducted by the Institute itself and by other information producers, in direct articulation with the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE) and the Common Nomenclature of Mercosur (NCM).

Created from one same reference for the specifications of industrial products in surveys about national industrial production conducted by the IBGE and by other entities, Prodlist-Industry enables the articulation of these different sources, as well as their integration with statistics on import and expor flows and with other statistics of mining and quarrying and manufacturing industries, organized according to the CNAE. It also ensures comparability with international statistics on products.

The first version of the list was completed in 1998 and adopted by the Annual Survey of Industry – Product (PIA‑Product), the survey that inaugurated the series of quantity statistics and value of industrial products defined in the nomenclature. Being annually updated until 2007, Prodlist‑Industry has, since then, been revised and released every three years, a process grounded on the cumulative experience in field work for PIA‑Product itself.

As in previous editions, in 2025, the list is mainly supported by the results of PIA‑Product, the main source of new indusrial products. When the informant does not find its product in the list and classifies it as "new", this piece of information is subject to analysis by the IBGE, with reference to its economic relevance, frequency of occuurence and perspectives in production expansion. In case its performance is confirmed, the product can be incorporated to the list or lead to the revision of existing codes. This continuous updated process includes procedures such as inclusion, aggregation, description modifications, changes in content  and adjustments in units of measurement or correspondence with the NCM.

Prodlist‑Industry is managed by the IBGEs Division of Registries and Classifications of the Directorate of Surveys, which also includes regular revisions and also includes regular revisions to the updates brought by  NCM and CNAE 2.0 — the latter based on the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (CIIU/ISIC) and in effect since 2007. The codes in the list follow the same pattern as in the origin of products: the first four digits correspond directly to the predominant CNAE.

The publication presents a table organized in five colums — Prodlist code, description, unit of measurement, correspondence with NCM and type of update — and also provides an index by CNAE classes for reference. Specific modifications of the 2025 edition from the previous one are detailed in a specific annex.

Available in printed and digital versions, Prodlist‑Indústria 2025 serves both informants of PIA‑Product and the users that need a standardized reference for the study and monitorig of industrial production in Brazil. In a global economic scenario, the access to integrated and comparable information is essential for the formulation of public policies, sectoral monitoring and definition of business strategies.

The complete documents of Prodlist-Industry 2025, is available on the page about statistical classifications, on the IBGE website: https://www.ibge.gov.br/estatisticas/metodos-e-classificacoes/classificacoes-e-listas-estatisticas.html.
