The National Index of Civil Construction (SINAPI), released today (12) by the IBGE, advanced 0.23% in February 2026, being 1.31 percentage points (p.p.) below the rate of January 2026 (1.54%).

The rate of January had been affected by payroll exemption - 5 percentage points (p.p.) in companies of the civil construction sector.

The cumulative index in 12 months was 6.71%, a similar result to that registered in the previous 12 months. In the year, the index increased 1.77%. The rate remained the same from February 2025 (0.23%).

“The difference between January and February 2026 was due to the influence of payroll exemption, in the first month, of employment in the civil construction sector,” says Augusto Oliveira.

The national cost of construction, by square meter, increased from R$ 1,920.74 in January to R$ 1,925.08 in February, being R$ 1,085.16 relative to materials and R$ 839.92, to workforce.

Materials recorded a change of 0.36%, with an increase both in relation to January (0.27%), and to February last year (0.29%), 0.09 and 0.07 percentage points (p.p.), respectively.

The share of workforce was 0.06%, with a decrease of 3.16 percentage points (p.p.) against the January index (3.22%), a result of payroll exemption of companies of the civil construction sector, in the start of the year. In relation to February a year ago (0.14%), there was a decrease of 0.08 percentage points (p.p.).

The cumulative indexes in the first two months were: 0.63% for the share of materials and 3.28% for the share of workforce. In 12 months, materials rose 4.36% and worforce, 9.94%.
