Rio de Janeiro, March 11, 2026 – The Directorate of Surveys (DPE/IBGE) publicly reaffirms the absolute integrity of its statistics and the total confidence in its technical staff, the institute's greatest asset.
In a meeting with the IBGE's Board of Directors this morning, DPE defended the integrity of its statistical production, the result of the work of a technical team composed of highly qualified officials with unrestricted technical autonomy. Methodological rigor and compliance with best practices and fundamental principles of official statistics constitute the compass that have guided the actions of IBGE officials throughout its nearly 90-year history.
Any inference about the institution's technical independence is an offense to the institution's staff and must be strongly rejected. The IBGE is a technical institution at the service of the Brazilian state and will proceed with its mission of portraying Brazil.
The IBGE has international recognition as a leading institute in several areas, and adopts rigid internal control procedures, including instances of societal representation in its management structure.
Therefore, there is no possible threat to the integrity of IBGE's technical output, and should any be presented to the various internal channels, it would be subject to a rigorous and independent investigation.
