An IBGE delegation is in Jakarta, Indonesia, participating in a series of dialogues and visits to the Indonesian Statistics Institute (BPS) between October 21 and 24. The visit to Indonesia includes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian National Statistics Institute (BPS), with the participation of the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, and other work agendas with the BPS.
On October 21, the coordinator general of the National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE), Jorge Abrahão de Castro, and the IBGE´s International Relations manager and ENCE teacher, Andrea Diniz da Silva, participated in a seminar held at the Polytechnic School of the Indonesian Statistics Institute (BPS), an institution equivalent to ENCE in that country.
The event brought together around 1,200 students and teachers and it was a valuable opportunity to present ENCE to the Indonesian audience through an institutional video and a lecture on the school's current and future challenges, addressing its teaching, research, extension and training activities. The presentation was followed by a debate with the participants, in which it was possible to clarify doubts and exchange views on the similarities and differences between the institutions.
On the same day, a technical meeting was held with teachers and experts from the Polytechnic School, where the institutional aspects of the Indonesian school were presented. From this meeting, the construction of a joint work plan between the two institutions began.
Among the main points discussed are the implementation of academic mobility programs for students and teachers, development of joint technical and scientific training initiatives, promotion of collaborative surveys and publications, and accomplishment of workshops and seminars. As well as exchanging experiences on the implementation of the UN Big Data hub, of which both the IBGE and the BPS are regional coordinators.
The partnership represents a strategic step towards strengthening international cooperation in statistics and applied social sciences. “The partnership can provide us with the frontier of faster, technical-scientific and institutional knowledge by providing intellectual and practical tools to face the complex challenges of our time,” highlighted Jorge Abrahão de Castro, ENCE´s coordinator general.
